This item is true on both servers. Yum updates are not getting installed via installSystemUpdates and cron. I cannot find any crontab entries where installSystemUpdates is ever invoked. When I run the script by hand, I have to modify it so that RIGHT_TIME=1 (line 49). Something is wrong here.

Jeff, The command is ran by puppet and not by cron. Some updates must have been excluded by yum.conf. Please have a look. RIGHT_TIME was introduced so that script does not go for downloading and installing updates every 10 minutes, but only once a day. This was done to avoid abusing the update servers as was complained by RHEL servers.

Ganesh, Alright, I will leave things alone over the Thanksgiving break (tomorrow thru the weekend), but I'm not convinced that things are working. I see in the logfiles when yum installs an update and it never happens unless I run installSystemUpdates by hand. There are outstanding yum updates on both servers; mdadm should have been applied last night if the scripts are working; it did not get applied.

Nevermind... I see that yum updates got applied last night on both servers between 23:00 and 24:00. It works, thanks.
